Answering Your Questions from The Head Cheese Mailbag

Feel free to shoot me questions about our favorite team via the comment section below or the "contact us" button and I'll post them here and give you my thoughts.

Do you see the Pack going for any available, experienced free agents left on the market? Old South Side Guy

I always love that one OSSG. No, there's a much better chance old Ted will find one or two guys who get cut loose late by another team than finding one on the current free agent list. Barring any serious injuries in the preseason, the roster seems deep in most places. But an injury at ILB, the D line or at safety could cause him to scan the waiver wire. By the way OSSG, I had enjoyed that great Packer article a few months back. Thanks for sharing, but next time just give us the link. :)

I read somewhere that Ryan Taylor played H-back some in college. So if Quinn Johnson doesn't show improvement, could we keep five tight ends and one fullback? Chad

I'm not sure, in this shortened off season, that the team has the luxury to see how versatile Taylor is. Right now, he's fighting for a roster spot at a deep position, but has clearly shown that he has talent. With Quarless back from injury, he has a chance to reclaim his spot on the depth chart, but right now with Finley and DJ Williams locks to make the team, Taylor, Quarless and Crabtree are probably fighting for two roster spots. Looks like Havner will be switched to LB.

Last year, before Finley got hurt, Jennings was grumbling some because the ball wasn't coming his way. Any chance it happens this year? Is it a valid argument? Triple G

Sure, it's a valid concern. I thought Rodgers was a bit too lasered in on Finley early last season myself. He is an amazing talent and a matchup nightmare for most teams, so I understand why Rodgers was licking his chops. But since he's coming off an injury and being eased back into things, I think you'll see the ball spread around liberally this season.

Finley is in the last year of his deal, as is Jordy Nelson. Will that influence their roles in the offense? Thompson would be wise to wait on both of them to see how they perform and whether they can stay healthy. But they both could get inked to new deals late in the season, as Bishop and Tramon Williams were last season.

After last season, let's just hope everybody stays healthy. As reader Spencer commented, adding Finley, Grant, Cobb and Alex Green to an already potent offense (not to mention the rookie tight ends who are turning heads), makes for an exciting predicament for Mike McCarthy. If there are no major injuries to the skill guys this year, Rodgers could be in line for his first MVP award.

What do you think of the KR/PR situation? I hope they don't keep sending Charles Woodson back there. Joan

You won't see Woodson back there, except maybe at a key moment in a playoff game. I'm hoping Tramon Williams' days are numbered at punt returner as well--though he's been getting reps in training camp. Electrifying rookie Randall Cobb will be given every opportunity to win the punt return job, something he was very adept at in college. Kickoff returns are less important now that kickoffs have been moved up to the 35. Rookie Alex Green is getting a look there.

How do you see the RB position shaking out? Thoughts on Alex Green. Lynn Dickey Fan

It's hard to know what to expect from Alex Green. In Hawaii's spread offense he had holes that Gilbert Brown could fit through, even after a visit to Burger King. He's big, can break tackles and is a very good receiver. He seems perfect as a third down back, but will need to prove he understands all that goes with pass blocking and blitz pickup. If he's a quick study he can step into Brandon Jackson's role.

I thought there was a good chance the Pack would cut Ryan Grant loose, but clearly they are bringing him back and he will be the opening day starter. I look for the Packers to use both Grant and Starks throughout the season to keep them fresh for January and beyond. Just a hunch, but I think Starks ends up being the primary ball carrier by the time the post season rolls around.

Keep the questions coming and we'll keep this blog going...

Davey: Do you see the Pack going after any of the available experienced free agents left on the market.....with all our last year injury guys back and TT really not a big market free agent guy this is not his MO. I think he may wait later in the preseason after teams make final cuts to aquire.....possibly a veteran LB, OL, or DL. What do you think ??

I read somewhere that Ryan Taylor played H-back some in college. So if Quinn Johnson doesn't show improvement in TC could we keep five TE's and only one FB?

on August 5th, 2011 at 02:02am

Now that James Jones has signed, the pressure is on Jordy Nelson to perform. He actually dropped as many passes as James Jones last year, maybe more, and yet he hasn't gotten the scrutiny that JJ received. Even in the SuperBowl, with 3 bad drops, he seemed to escape somewhat unscathed. Now that JJ is signed and Cobb is turning heads in camp, the pressure will be on him big time. I wouldn't be surprised, if he underperforms, for Nelson to be released or traded next year. A starting 3 of Jennings/Jones/Cobb with Finley and DJ Williams as your TE's would be just as potent as anything Nelson brings to the table. Not hoping for that scenario but saying its possible. GoPack!

Hey Davey, i like this format for awhile. i know we all ask ?'s about all the glitzy positions. but i said last year and say it again. the most under rated player on this team is scott wells. he does all the line calls, he seldom gets beat, and he is under sized compared to most other centers. how many bad snaps has he had a shotgun? none that i remember and we do that alot. how much do u know of mcdonald? and is there anyone else out there u would like to have. if he gets hurt, watch out. lastly, i think levine takes last saftey spot and they cut underwood. not any better and to many things off the field to keep. then my prediction, the queens will pick him up. they want to be us so much it hurts. . GO PACKER CHAMPIONS.

Are you concerned about Clifton making it through an entire year? And are you concerned with McCarthy's press conference swagger?

on August 8th, 2011 at 04:00pm

dave, u answered wrong ? from me. that was chad's. what about back up for wells? u must have fun with p.a now davey, read his show page, he acts like the whole team is better all of a sudden. !st he hated having mcnabb, now of course he loves him, is a great leader like #4 he said last week, berrian is going to stretch the field now too, he really bleeds purple and sells hope so badly. remember cockadix is p.a. so i know he will read this. dennis can't be that unread on the packers, he never makes sense, so it's p.a having some fun with u. no injuries this sat, I hope. go pack

Davey, What is the over/under on the number of times PA will say "he hates the Packers" this year, which of course we all know is just to appease the purple fan-base and his viqueen employers. Spill the beans to us on the truth behind PA's closet love affair with our team and his mancrush on Wayne Larravie. GoPack!

Jermicheal Finley is probably a top 3 or 4 plaeyr on the team. You are all crazy if you think he should not be resigned. He has the potential to be the best reciever/tight end to EVER play the game. Thats right, he can be better than any reciever and any tight end who ever played this game. Do you guys understand that? maybe even the second best plaeyr on the Green Bay Packers. He needs to get the ball. Thats what he is saying. You are an idiot if you think Finley should be traded or not resigned. The Packers could be sporting the best offense to ever take the field, right now. That will not be the case, or even a debatable case, if we lose Finley. Think about it. Jermichael Finley is a Beast and in the near future the best catcher to ever play. DO NOT LET HIM GO!!!

I think everyone is biwnlog his comments way out of proportion he is a great tight end who wants the ball it is no different than a wide receiver wanting to get more passes thrown his way! Would we want him to say that he does not want the ball thrown his way every play? Besides I think he could easily beat double teams if given the opportunity to out jump the defenders for the ball! Our offense would still be great without Finley but with him we are damn near unstoppable!

on May 18th, 2012 at 05:06pm

Ok, seriously, this is rellay starting to annoy me and I'm tired of people making excuses for this guy. Finley is like 25 years old and should know better. THose comments are not casual. This guy has a huge ego. I fear this is javon walker 2. Its disappointing that someone would be like this even though they are 4-0 and on a great team .

on May 18th, 2012 at 09:37pm

I'm alomst hoinpg he isn't resigned by the packers.he just doesnt have the attitude of being a packer. He is a great tight end, but the packers won the superbowl without him and they can do it again if needed. I'm sure if he gets traded to any other team he will feel right at home getting the ball all day long.

I don't know how to edit Wikipedia, but I can find out. Gagapedia is such a great resource but I agree that it rellay ought to be updated. I'll ask around and see if anyone knows how to edit it, or else I'll just have to figure it out myself! =)Thank you so much for the compliments! It rellay doesn't feel like work at all. It's the most positive, wonderful thing in the world to be able to write about Gaga and interact with other monsters. Gaga has the most incredible, good-hearted fanbase in the world, by far.The site is less than two months old, so a lot of people have yet to discover it. The response has been great so far though. We're getting a lot more traffic each week than the week before and we plan to expand the writing staff soon.

that this is such a young site, it's so sophisticated. I'm so bsesled to find this page and very heartened that you're gaining followers and even have to expand the writing staff, that's wonderful news! Been reporting to the Gaga Daily followers about your site, so hopefully they will follow!Yes, the Lady Gaga wikipedia STILL shows the Sydney Hall performance for the BTW era, and the Katy Perry Wikipedia is totally updated to reflect her 6th single release, TOTGA. I really don't know what's going on as I'm 100% sure that Gaga has many more loyal and devoted fans than Perry (I'm not hating, just stating the facts).I'm going to do research into how to post Wikipedia info b/c Gaga page getting really old!
