Packers XLV

After Further Review, Pack Will Try to Win With Flynn

Posted December 30th, 2011 @ 04:12pm

The Packers' 20-game winning streak over the Lions in Wisconsin is in jeopardy this weekend, and it has nothing to do with which will be the better team on Sunday.

The Lions are 3 1/2 point favorites at Lambeau for a reason. They have everything to play for and the Pack has nothing to play for, and while it would be nice to go after them and deliver them the sixth seed and a funeral march to New Orleans, the reality is the Packers will give some of their key starters a few series, maybe a half, and then they'll take a seat and let the reserves finish up.

The 20-game home winning streak pre-dates Favre and includes the '94 playoff win--it's the longest current streak in the NFL. But it has a good chance at ending this weekend as Green Bay prepares for its title defense 13 or 14 days later at Lambeau, likely against either the NFC East champ or these same Lions.

The Pack will start the game with Rodgers, with Chad Clifton back at left tackle for the first time in ten games, with Ryan Pickett back to help correct the suddenly horrible run defense. Depending on how things go, they'll likely play into the second quarter or through the first half. They'll be joined on the sidelines by anybody else nursing some bruises, guys like Woodson, Matthews, maybe even Tramon Williams and Jermichael Finley.

It's not what most of us would prefer. We saw what late season momentum meant to the Packers last year, and you hate to provide some to the young, trash-talking, late-hitting Lions. But once the chance at 19-0 vanished, so did the Pack's motivation to play a week 17 game where they had nothing to gain but everything to lose.

By all accounts, Greg Jennings and Bryan Bulaga will be back for the playoffs. Randall Cobb's suddenly achy groin will likely keep him out this weekend, but hopefully a couple weeks will be enough to get him back to 100%. The goal is to be as healthy as possible when the chase for the Lombardi trophy begins.

This season, they're the hunted. A hungry team will visit that second week in January, knowing that being the underdog means nothing once the playoffs start. If it is the Lions who come calling that weekend, you can bet that many will be comparing them to last season's Packers--the hot wildcard team no one wants to face.

And what happens this weekend could set up the Pack to squelch that nonsense and remind the football world why this team has been the league's best since late last December.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

The Bills appear to be on the ropes for the year; They got Good Men like C.J. Spiller but they have to find tevmshlees collectively. I feel like they are going to be a while before they start to thread wins together.Chiefs are a Good team and today was just one loss against a Colts team that knows consistent Football. I think they are going to be a Playoff team in the WildCard round but the Colts are a force to be reakon with at home and especially after losing games they shoulda had.

It may have taken me three tries, but I finally teunrd in a perfect performance this week. The Lions made life easy. The Jags and Colts had me worried but pulled through.Sitting at 5-4 on Best Bets for the year isn't great but at least I'm on the positive. I'll see what I can do to keep things going in the right direction.

I think you might be right about gardeners lvinog cats. I do too, as long as they are in the house and not stalking the wild birds in my yard.As for the lion guy, how does he get life insurance;) We've got bear whisperers up here and the prevailing thought is, "they're crazy." I can think of many ways of dying that are more pleasant than mauling, but not many less so.Christine in Alaska, giving top predators a wide berth!

Play play play, sleep sleep sleep, eat eat eat!! We need to learn from these gorgeous bengis -- what life is really all about! We are waking up to the deep spirit available to us through our loving relationships with animals. Kevin R. is opening a window for us of things to come. The Peaceable Kingdom. Our hearts open wide when we hug our cats, dogs, and lions!

Edge matters so much the game of football, that little bit of attitude of I want it more than you. Even if we would have played every best player we have, there's a chance that without the edge of having/needing to win that we would loose anyway. Mentally, it is better not play those guys and know that if we see these guys again, we'll have that edge.

on December 30th, 2011 at 04:29pm

Dave, upon further review, and reading Larry's blog, larry is right again. u can give me some love davey, i'll take it with true packer fan pride. i think i know just how mm thinks now, and i hope he will not play 12 at all, but he may play one or 2 series pending if they look crisp, sharp and score. you are right lynndickey fan we need an edge. like i said after kc loss, u have to play this game with emotion or u will not win. i still say flynn will play almost the whole game and we win 31-27. go world champs

on December 30th, 2011 at 07:30pm

I know I'm in the minority....but I say play it like you need it....if you have to play the starters do it....these guys are professionals one of the most important things in professional sports is momentum. This is not the time to hand someone like the Lions momentum. We have one week off. I understand the fear of injury ,,,especially to a key starter....but we need to keep sharp. This is not the preseason. I truly hope I'm wrong and Flynn and others can produce . This is like a heavy weight fight where you can go for the knockout early ....but you decide to dance into the later rounds and run out of gas....in our case ....momentum. GO PACK GO !!

Look forward to watching this game with you Davey along with the other Packer fans at Park Tavern on Sunday to start the New Year. Regardless of who starts & for how long they play, I hope the Packers can beat the Lions again & come out healthy. Glad we earned the bye this year to rest up & homefield advantage to boot! Go Pack!

Another thing I have noticed is that for many people, low credit score is the results of circumstances over and above their control. Such as they may happen to be saddled by having an illness and as a consequence they have high bills for collections. It could be due to a work loss or perhaps the inability to do the job. Sometimes divorce can really send the finances in the wrong direction. Thanks for sharing your ideas on this weblog.

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
