Mike Neal Injures Knee in Practice; "Packer Preview" Start Date SetPosted:Aug 16th, 2011 5:34 pm
The Packers may have suffered their first significant injury of the 2011 season, when Mike Neal went down with an apparent knee injury on Tuesday. He was on the ground for several minutes before he limped off the field. The concern is that it happened without any contact, which often means a ligament issue.
If he is out for a significant stretch, it's a big blow to the Pack, who are looking to the second year guy out of Purdue to step up and take starter's snaps this season. However, with B.J. Raji moving to Cullen Jenkins' old spot on the line and Ryan Pickett moving back to the nose, the position calls for a space eater who can occupy blockers and allow the linebacker behind him to make a play. CJ Wilson probably will replace him in the short term. If it's a bad injury for Neal, Ted Thompson will be forced to look to free agency to find a 3-4 end who can step in. For now, fingers are crossed on Neal.
I just got the official word that "Packer Preview" will return on KFAN (and kfan.com) for a 16th season, on Sunday, September 4th at 8am. Once again the Park Tavern in St. Louis Park returns as the title sponsor of the show. I'll let you know when we plan to be out there during the season as soon as we set the schedule.
