Packers XLV

This Doughnut Leaves a Glazed Look in our Eyes

Le's start with the good stuff. As hoped, Brett Hundley picked up where he left off in the fourth quarter in Chicago, leading the Pack down the field on the opening drive to the Ravens 10 yard line.

OK, let's move on to the rest of the game now.

Maybe Hundley was confused by the throwback uniforms. Or maybe he's just not good. After that performance on Sunday, it looks likely that the Pack's eight-year streak of playoff appearances is history and Aaron Rodgers can heal up, rest up and prepare for 2018.

Despite countless plays where the offensive line gave him a clean pocket, Hundley constantly held on to the ball, neglecting open receivers, and fled toward the sidelines looking  for something, anything. It seems clear after four starts that he's not ready to lead a team with playoff aspirations. I'm not sure he's ready to lead a Boy Scout troop.

As putrid as his play was, the defense bailed him out. After turnovers on the first three series, the Ravens were only able to come away with six points, teasing us that the Pack was still in the game. Eventually, the defense wilted, thanks in part to injuries to Clay Matthews and Kenny Clark (adding to a medical chart that already had starters Kevin King and Morgan Burnett on the sidelines).

With Aaron Jones and Ty Montgomery sidelined, the running game was unable to bail Hundley out this time around and an aggressive, rested, hungry Ravens defense was more than ready for him. Next up comes the Pittsburgh Steelers defense, in their house, in prime time. The Packers are two touchdown underdogs. I'm sure NBC execs are thrilled that this matchup wasn't flexed out of Sunday night. At least we'll have three days to digest our Thanksgiving meal before watching this beat down.

A week from now, the Pack will likely be 5-6 with the Buccaneers and Browns waiting in the wings. Obviously, after what we saw on Sunday, it's hard to picture the Pack beating anyone. But if they find a way to win those two and get to 7-6 with a trip to Carolina looming, it's not out of the question that Rodgers will be back in uniform. But with defenders dropping like flies, and with Hundley's confidence likely shaken to its core by Pittsburgh, wins over Tampa and Cleveland are hardly assured.

Like many, I bought into the notion that Hundley was ready for this moment, after nearly three years in McCarthy's system. Today, I find myself feeling like a rube who just spent five bucks to try to win a stuffed bear at the State Fair.

I tried. I tried and tried and tried. But your squad blows harder than Aaron Rodgers at a Jonas Bros. concert. It's time to can Mike McFlintstone, Ted "Crazy-eyed" Thompson and Dumb Crappers. NOW!

Looks like the "Fire Everyone" crowd is rearing their collective ugly heads. What the hell, right? For all of you who are fans of losing, I hope you get your wish, because if that comes to be, you'll get more of what you asked for. To you, along with 2Pack, I say good riddance. You fools weren't around between 1968 and 1991. What this team is going through right now doesn't come close to that dark time. Get some perspective, people. When this team starts winning again, whether it's later this season or next season, those of us in it for the long haul don't want you back.

Voice....You are so right (see I can agree with you sometimes) ...the Packer old days were much worse. Play this season out then we will do what is needed. To the Viking trolls on here: Wait until your first playoff game....I do not care how great your record will be or who your QB will be something in the Viking Legacy DNA will explode your season. I am predicting Fun Bath wide left on a potential gaming winning FG in game one of the playffs. Face it: It's in your DNA....just check your trophy room. GO PACK GO !!

It is time for McCarthy, Capers, and yes Mr. Ted Thompson to go. Haven't we seen enough boneheaded mistakes out of this guy cough *Seattle* cough. This is not all his fault, but losing one starting quarterback should not lead to this. The Vikings are technically on their third string quarterback, and making a Super Bowl run. Capers horrible defense has been hiding behind 20-30 points a game for far too long. Last but not least, Mr. Thompson....look around the league at the players you released this season. You really didn't/couldn't see any of them helping us out? A few of them are leading the league in their respective categories. I am not too proud to admit that we stink, and the Vikings look really good, but we shouldn't stink this bad. If we as fans want to see another Superbowl with Rogers leading our team, then we need some head office changes. I don't think A-Aron even likes his head coach.

I remember last year I commented that Rogers is amazing, receivers are good (though last year I also said too many drops by Adams he has improved this year), but offensive line allows too many sacks and the defense is below average at best. I had packer fans saying no they're Super Bowl contenders and Rogers will prove he is better than Brady(which is a joke because you look at SBs when measuring greatness in a QB and be honest no chance Rogers gets close to Brady). Now it looks like my condemned comment from last year was not only right last year, but without Rogers your a below average team that needs a lot of holes filled. Look across the border as the Vikings took a horrible offensive line last year, addressed it, and improved immensely. They have a good coach and have made smart moves (Case to backup Bradford compared to Rogers to Bumbly).

Dave, you have gotta lay off the booze Before you write these blogs as this one Really shows how shnockered you are if you Actually Believe this team of yours can beat Anyone? I think the DePere nursing home squad could beat this pathetic excuse for a team. Oh and what is it with Matthews and groin injuries? Every freaking season he misses games because of this weakness. Time to cut this dead weight off your roster. I can't wait to see the Browns beat this squad by 8 maybe 10 points! #SkolVikings

Shut out by the miggyfricken Ravens? Really!??? I'm done with this team. If I was Aaron Rodgers, I would opt out now. This team is far too soft to be a contender going forward. I refuse to watch anymore of this garbage!

It's a loss too far so time to bring out the Jim Mora rant: Playoffs!? Playoffs?! Are you kidding me? Playoffs!? The last 6 weeks of this season are going to be a time of evaluation of player and coaches to see who stays and who goes when it's all done. After 5 games we can't deny that the Packers without Aaron Rodgers are like the Colts without Andrew Luck or the Broncos without Peyton Manning. Disgusting how that one late, dirty hit ruined an entire season. But ARod will be back and good as ever. But after nearly a decade of consistent success time has come to begin a new chapter as the franchise approaches its centenniel in two years. A higher place in the draft can be a good way to start.

not even my arch enemy Mr. Hanky can stomach da Packers this year...BRUTAL

@pakerlifer are you really going on about that hit? It was a clean hit (and one I've seen Clay make many times) that Barr was not fined for. Thus from logic it means many watched the play and deemed it within the rules. I played football and as a defensive end if you get a chance to put a hit on a QB you do it to make him think twice before leaving the pocket again and to rattle him. I have seen Brady take those shots time and time again and even the low hit they knocked him out a few seasons ago I did not think it was dirty. I get it they changed the rules on low hits, but wrapping a QB and driving with your shoulder is not and should not be illegal unless it's avertly late (this one was not), to the head, low at the knees, or leading with the helmet. None of that applies in Barrs hit on Rogers.

MM here ….. The average blog poster on here doesn't seem to fathom, or appreciate the league renowned and absolute genius of my coaching abilities …. I'll give you a little insight into what I've been up to lately….. The Pittsburgh Steelers have a tendency to “play down” to the competition ….. the Pack could have 'easily' won that Ravens game but, our apparent ineptitude was all for Show heh heh ) ….. The Steelers have been in my sights all along ! ….. Imagine their surprise next Sunday, when Dudley throws 6 TD's and a Weed enhanced Aaron Jones runs for 250 + yards ! ….. pure genius ! ….. where's my vico …. Ah, I don't even need that ! I'm feeling GREAT ! ...MM out.
