Packers XLV

A Special Season Ends Far Too Soon

Posted January 16th, 2012 @ 01:01am

We were treated to a magical 13-month run, with a march to a Super Bowl title backed up by a 15-1 season. But what we witnessed at Lambeau Field on Sunday night will leave a bad taste in all of our mouths for months.

Where do we start? Three fumbles. Zero pass rush. Lousy tackling. A rusty offense led by a rusty quarterback. An embarrassing two play stretch by the defense to end the first half that gave the G-men a ten point lead and a world of momentum heading into the locker room. I mean, seriously, they hand the ball to Ahmad Bradshaw to basically run out the clock and he gains a ton of yards and gets out of bounds--allowing Manning to try a Hail Mary, one that was answered by Nicks, giving the Giants a ten-point lead at the half.

If not for some very questionable calls against the Giants, this one would have been even more of a laugher. There is blame to go around, but first you have to credit the Giants for taking the Pack out of their game from the very start. Hakeem Nicks showed once again that he is an elite receiver and the Giants' secondary made life miserable for the Packers' offense all day.

But the goat horns are reserved for Dom Capers and his defense, which was utterly unable to get any kind of pressure on Eli Manning all day and could not get off the field on third down. The corners were brutal and Charlie Peprah may not be on this roster next season after this performance.

The offense was no better. Eight dropped balls, three fumbles. In Rodgers' seven starts at Lambeau this season, he and the offense averaged 39 points per game. On this day, they never found a rhythm. Manning and his receivers were much better on this day.

There will be plenty of time to reflect on this season and what Ted Thompson needs to do to make this team better. For now, we are left with might have been. The road to Indy was supposed to go through Lambeau. Instead, Eli and his merry band of receivers put a dagger in the Packers' season. And we're left to wonder what could have been, just like the 28 other teams that are looking ahead to 2012.

Hi there this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I'm starting a blog soon but have no coding skills so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!

Wow! This blog looks exactly like my old one! It's on a totally different topic but it has pretty much the same layout and design. Excellent choice of colors!

Hello! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this website? I'm getting fed up of Wordpress because I've had problems with hackers and I'm looking at options for another platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

Impotent guys in no way had it so great. Viagra pioneered the oral procedure for Erection Dysfunction. And also the baton, it seems, continues to be transferred to Cialis. Between, Levitra also produced its presence felt. But Cialis is the long run drug containing the whole world on its feet.

John Wilkes Booth and David Herold ran and hid for six days. They crossed the Potomac River from Maryland into Virginia. Finally, twelve days after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, soldiers found the two men. They were hiding in a tobacco barn near the town of Port Royal.

It is possible to compare this to people that are way too very lazy to be effective off of any sweating. That they acquire fatigued thus very easily but they usually are not doing everything during their day time. Thats given that they dont have enough vitality in their bodies. This leads to a significant programmed named chronic exhaustion syndrome, where you really feel uncommonly worn out even youre carrying out boring responsibilities like jogging a short distance or perhaps getting larger along with around the stairway.

It was clear this was the game the Packers defense would be their ultimate demise. That GB defense had more holes in it all year then my fishing net and you can only get away with that type of defense so long and once January rolled around you have to play defense. I hear you Sinikin this morning saying you expected GB's defense to step up today which confused me because they haven't played defense all year sitting at 32nd in yds. Eli is a veteran QB who exposed this holes and that 15-1 season. Giants had them on the ropes a few weeks ago and matched up too well against this overrated GB team. Defense wins championships, offense sells tickets.

Hey Dave, Still looking forward to hearing from the caller from New York?

on January 15th, 2012 at 07:23pm

choke city.....15-1, home field, and one and done. At least the 15-1 Vikes got to the NFC title game. This one was so enjoyable to watch. Made my season

Packers are terrible... How 'bout a beer?

on January 15th, 2012 at 07:27pm

just bring it.....whoops. sure glad they sat Rodgers week 16...not. He was rusty and played scared. Please no more discount double check commercials.

I could not be happier for you and the rest of Packer Nation. Lulz. That is embarrassing. Good luck getting over that. That's worse then 41-donut because it was at home.

Funny how we hear all the Viking fans coming on the site now. worry about your own team. As to our team ...this one hurts. I have said all year on this site.....there are only two stats that are most important in a football game.....turnovers and third down efficiency....we sucked at both. I knew we needed the 40 for 40 mantra as our defense has been horrible most of the year. TT needs to go into the off season with the mindset that we need to go into the free agent market and find some solid defenders that can make an impact. He cannot always rely on the draft. I agree with you Davy....Peprah will be gone next year and I think to use the franchise tag on Finley is a waste. We need linemen who can rush the passer and more athletic quicker LB's to team with Mathews. Was a great year ....I don't think I can watch any of the championship games.....maybe I'll polish my shoes or clean my toothbrush when those games are on.....just too hard to take. Will be qa lot of analyzing coming our way !! GO PACK GO !!!

on January 15th, 2012 at 07:42pm

At least Green Bay set a new record as being the first 15-1 team to be one and done in the playoffs. Great year though! Maybe this heartbreaker will calm down all the over the top behind realistic packer fans. Think they got a little too cocky.

on January 15th, 2012 at 07:46pm

Disappointing game from everyone. Rodgers had some bad miss-throws (3) but was once again not helped at all by his receivers. Someone needed to tell Rodgers that on 4th down, you have to throw the ball. An interception is just as good as a punt. Taking a sack was total idiocy.-- Finley just convinced TT to NOT franchise him. Too often early drops are killing us. Will be interested to hear if the miscue with Rodgers in the 4th was Finley not continuing the route rather than errant throw by Rodgers. Best player on offense was DD. -- Did anyone notice the play before the Jacobs TD (blown tackle by Woodson btw) that it was CMIII that chased Bradshaw down? CMIII played hard the entire game. TT has to get him some help. We have to solidify the ROLB spot this offseason. It is the foundation of a successful 3-4. Better push from the down linemen would be nice but not necessary if LB's can rush. -- Can someone please tell me what happened to Tramon Williams? He was bad all year, looked bad today as well. He needs to refocus this offseason. Peprah, Bush and Lee will all be cut. As will Walden. On offense, Grant played his last game as a Packer, with a horrible fumble being his last contribution. I am afraid it may be DD's last game as well which bums me out. I hope he considers taking a paycut.-- I truly believed that if the Giants front four didn't dominate, the Pack would win going away. Our O-line actually played well while the game was still in question.-- I didn't take into account the offense blowing opportunity after opportunity. -- This will be a long offseason. GoPack!

Miserable Viqueen fans coming out of the woodwork now. I always love that one! At least the Pack will be competitive for years to come. I can't say the same for the diseased Queens. And don't worry "ninerfan", none of the regular posters here got too "cocky". We all knew this defense wasn't championship worthy this year. Rodgers, and the offense carried the team all year, but the imbalance finally caught up to them. Looking forward to the draft, to improve the team.

on January 15th, 2012 at 08:16pm

this defense relied too much on creating the big turnover at the right moment all season, and that won't get you too far in the playoffs, as we saw. Too bad the Pack decided to play their worst game of the season today, too many drops, too many turnovers, too many big plays given up, and too little pass rush without blitzing proved to be their demise. this team has a lot of holes, and TT will have to address them in the off-season. As for all the Viking fans commenting here, it just proves what we know about most of you, you are a bunch of clowns, with a terrible team, terrible uniforms, terrible stadium etc. etc. Glad the Packers could provide some joy for your otherwise pitiful effort your team put forth this season. Enjoy rooting for the L.A. least we know the Packers will be playing in Green Bay forever.

well guys, what have i been telling u since mid dec, i hated the giants coming here. they even got up by 10 like i said, but i still thought we would come back and win. i wish we would have done no huddle right away, then 12 gets in sync faster. hate being right this time, my wife even told me i'm in the wrong business, i should be working for the packers or the nfl. told p.a .when he told me we would win, i said that's scary, now i know we'll lose. the offensive line did fine. no one could get open, listen to rodgers post game. they did what i said capers should do, play man to man and no excuses. and what did i say this morning, can't have turnovers, and we did. we even got lucky with 85, he fumbled. i wish they would have played saine more, he has great hands and with all the drops we had, they could have been big plays. he looked great the last few games and tt needs to read my comments from now on. i said last draft, give up 3-4 picks and move into top 10 and get olb, or get watt from wi. wouldn't he look good now? was a great regular season, now we can do like the queen rubes have been doing since mid oct. and think of the draft. keep us up to date davey. go and, still, world champs

on January 15th, 2012 at 08:37pm

Suck pack Suck. I've become a Vikings fan!

on January 15th, 2012 at 09:00pm

"i should be working for the packers or the nfl" --- Oh isn't that cute Larry, you and your wife think you can work in the LEAGUE because you thought the Pack should have went no huddle right away. You think that is some kind of huge strategic ploy. Give me a break dude. Go put your cheesehead in the attic till next September and stick to your regular day job.

on January 15th, 2012 at 09:05pm

Swiss Cheese tonight! Manning up, Dave. GIANT win New York. Yes. Even the ref's couldn't help. "G" 4 Giants!!

I. Couldn't. Be. Any. Happier. Honestly I feel for the players and coaches because they have so much invested in this. I know they had to endure a tragedy and my heart goes out to Coach Philbin and his friends and family. As for the Packer fans...I. Couldn't. Be. Any. Happier.

on January 15th, 2012 at 09:41pm

It's interesting that both of these "pitch and catch", no defense, no ground game teams got stomped in the first round. I got sick of hearing how good Rodgers and Brees were with ther teams having the worst defenses in the league. Flynn actually bettered those gaudy numbers Rodgers was putting up all year long, which proves it's those 5 recievers, not just 12 that accounts for that. Bet Brees's backup could never do that! DEFENSE STILL WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS, ME BOY! And you got none!

on January 15th, 2012 at 10:06pm

I want to thank all the Vikings fans/Packer haters that watched the game. I know you had some free time, so it wasn't that hard, but it does keep our viewing numbers high. You check us out some more next year. You'll still be able to find us in prime time and nationally televised. We will probably be playing in January again too. I know your season might not go that long, so I want you to know you can watch the Packers.

on January 15th, 2012 at 10:41pm

Today's loss was more embarassing then me drinking with HS girls in my neighbor's hot tub party. What a disgrace to GB fans everywhere and the state of Wisconsin. Favre would have won this game.

Hey "ninerfan", How seriously can we take your criticism of the Packers, when you live in MN but are so ashamed of it, you consider yourself a 49er fan? LOL! - TheTruthHurts ... Apparently all the packer fans that live in MN then are ONLY packer fans because they are ashamed to be vikings fans and not just because they moved to MN because of a job or who they are married too. Nice slam though that you thought was so hilarious! You just summed up my thoughts of most WI people. Just sack up and take the criticism that your team deserves after yesterdays performance. That is how sports work! You give and you take but apparently most packer fans have not learned how to take.

on January 16th, 2012 at 02:56pm

Ninerfan, I don't live in WI, but nice try on generalizing how packer fans are poor losers. You live in MN and sounds like you're married to somebody from Minnesota. That's pathetic enough to make fun of. The fact that you took time to reply proves that YOU'RE the one who can give but can't take. Sucks to be you, loser.

TheTruthHurtson January 16th, 2012 at 03:11pm........ This loser will enjoy watching his team in the NFC championship next week! I can take the ribbing and that is why I keep coming back. Its good fun and that is how sports are. I have said multiple times how good your team and franchise is so just calm down and accept your team lost when they were not suppose to. GO NINERS!

on January 16th, 2012 at 03:40pm

@ninerfan, get off your high horse and stop generalizing about Wisconsin/Green Bay fans. EVERY fanbase has it's bad apples. The one's that REGULARLY post on this site (not all the ones who sprouted up after last night), aren't the rub it in other fan's faces types. I've often found that people like you that criticize other fanbase's so much are usually the one's most guilty of the same behavior. So, go visit a San Fran blog and spare us the witless criticism.

on January 16th, 2012 at 03:42pm

What's that ninerfan. What you mean, the team lost last night?! Well DUH. I think we all know that. Good luck to your niner team in the championship game. Why you bother to post on this site is beyond me but whatever. You'd better pray they win it all, or believe me, you will be savaged ruthlessly. ;)

I originally came to this post because I enjoy Sinny on KFAN. He is very classy and just a true fan of his team just like all you guys. Should I have come on here right after a loss by the packers? No, probably not but I just wanted some good sports fan ribbing between teams fans. The ultimate compliment is paying attn to another teams sites. Would I love to have Rodgers rather than Alex, hell yes, but it is what it is. Thanks for the good luck comment, whether actual or not. If we do lose by all means come on SF blogs and savage us. I know I sound like a prick by posting on here but it was all in sports fun. You have a very young and great team/franchise with many wins and great seasons to come.

on January 16th, 2012 at 04:14pm

Nice to see all the Viking trolls showing up. Wasn't it your old coach who once said to "act like you've been there before?" It's obvious you haven't as this is the highlight of your pathetic 3-13 season topped of by missing out on the best QB prospect to come through the pike in 30 years. As I've said to my queens fan friends before: love your own team more than you hate ours. Apparently this is all you got as you dont know what it's like to win 21 of 23 with a Lombardi trophy sandwiched in between. And you never will. Until then go back to rooting for that terrible team in a terrible town with by far the most terrible fan base all of sports who will fleece the taxpayers yet again for a soon to be terrible brand new stadium. Shut the front door, looooosers!!'n

on January 16th, 2012 at 05:40pm

Packer fans could have cared less about 1998 or the Favre year in Minnesota. That's what separates them from viking fans. They were all classy in those losses, and never said a word after those games. (LMAO) The only goal this offseason is to find out what gambling agency owns lambeau field. It's just week after week after week of embarrasing calls over there.

on January 16th, 2012 at 05:57am

All of the Packers' blemishes showed up on Sunday but it was the Giants secondary which won the game for the Giants. No surpises yesterday.

on January 16th, 2012 at 07:26am

Couldn't have played a worse game. Hard to find anybody on this team to compliment. It may be time for Woodson to hang it up too. He wasn't within ten yards of his guy all day. This arena football league team was able to get through the regular season just fine with that method, but they have proven, it is no way to assemble a championship team. Yeah they were 15-1, but how many games did you have to watch with your hands over your eyes just hoping the other team would run out of time?

on January 16th, 2012 at 07:44am

While I wasn't cheering for your team, I don't envy the pain and frustration you'll endure this offseason - as a Vikings fan, I know it all too well from 2010, 1999, ... And, while I choose not to join in on the class trashing of my rivals, let's not be so naive to think that only Vikings fans do that and Packer fans are far too classy. That's hogwash - I heard it from Packer and Bear fans alike 2 years ago, just like you're hearing it now. Just like this year, when their teams are done, getting joy from your misery. Let's face it, it sucks. But let's not pretend GB fans are any different than MN or CHI. Fans are fans, no matter the team.

on January 16th, 2012 at 07:51am

Steve, Well said and very accurate. There are scumbags that climb out of the woodwork regardless of the team. I was giddy when Favre threw that interception against the Saints. I admit it. I didn't, however, go to websites to taunt and harrass viking fans. I know plenty of Packer fans did though. Misery loves company so lets chat about the 2012 draft. GoPack!

on January 16th, 2012 at 08:20am

Uggh....I just heard on ESPN that this GB Packer team was the first team ever to win 15 games and not get to the title game. Which essentially means they wasted a great season and may have pulled off the biggest choke job in NFL history. Pass me another beer.....

on January 16th, 2012 at 08:35am

As a Pack fan, I could tell that "something" was going on and the league did everything it could to try and make us win this game and I couldn't be more ashamed of it. Makes me wonder how legit last year's Super Bowl run was with that kind of ref "fixing" going on.

on January 16th, 2012 at 09:15am

I am one of the classy Packer fans that is truly disappointed in the lack luster game that was played yesterday. I had to stomach rude comments from Viking rubes @ work today. Rather than taking the bait I just kept walking with my head held high. I have lived in MN for 30 years and have had it endure boorish VIking fans the entire time. Will be moving back to God's country in March (Door County). It can't be soon enough. Won't miss Viking fans but will still listen to KFAN on my IPad and especially Dave's Packer Preview on Sunday mornings. The best hour show on KFAN btw. Thanks for the great regular season, the post season not so much. As they say, wait until next year. Go Pack Go.

on January 16th, 2012 at 09:26pm

Where do I even start! Living in MN for the last 20 years I have to say I find it comical when I read posts on here stating how packer fans have never rubbed it in or went on vikings posts after a crushing loss vikes loss. Every time the vikes have had a better season the packers always go to the good old "how many super bowls have you won?" line. (speaking of being original) The packer fan base is one of the most cocky and arrogant group out there. But you know what they have a right to be. They have had many seasons to cheer for and a great team and franchise to look forward to. But lets not be coy and act like they do not rub it in to vikes fans just like vikes fans are doing today! That is sports, you give and you take it. After reading these posts it sounds like the packer fans love to dish it out but then cannot take it like a man when things go bad. Step up and take the jokes and comments because we all know you have dished it out in the past. You will have many great seasons to come with the squad you have so just deal with it. Otherwise stop caring because that is how sports rivalries work.

on January 16th, 2012 at 10:06am

Ok, I made a mistake it the 11 arrested were from NY. I will although let you use the vikes d since they are better, well if you like the groin kick, it's our most classy move. Seriously, u have no chance against the Vikes they will take the Nort next year with the best mullet wearying D-end around. Just like Robison, allen will kick you in the wiener if you don't believe me. GB you'll just have to grow up and win a SB or two...well, I mean two in a row...Ok, I mean again. Oh never mind will you just give us one since you have a few extras?

on January 16th, 2012 at 10:06pm

I don't think I can vote in your poll this week. I want to check all five.

on January 16th, 2012 at 10:11am

And so the magical season of the Greatest Team That Ever Played has come to an end. Instead of Super Bowl talk, Packer Nation begins this week searching for answers, becoming the first team in NFL history to go 15-1, lock down the #1 seed, and still fail to reach their conference’s championship game. Heck, even the ’98 Vikings made it that far. C’mon, man! So just how did this awe inspiring bunch manage to wrap two hands around there collective throats and squander this opportunity? Let’s take a look at just who is to blame for the 15-1 Packers’ stunning defeat to the lowly 9-7 Giants: Packer Nation can’t blame the refs. After all, the officiating crew tried as hard as they could to hand the Packers a victory. Even instant replay couldn’t convince the officials this was a fumble by Greg Jennings: We also had the bogus roughing call on poor Aaron, without which the Packers wouldn’t have scored a TD in the second half. In contrast, the yellow flags were nowhere to be found after two blows to Manning’s head. Packer Nation can’t fault the great Aaron Rodgers for failing to rally the team in the second half, or can they? Rodgers is now 5-19 (.208) when trailing in the fourth quarter. Someone named Brett Favre was nearly twice as good with the game on the line (winning % of .475 when trailing in the 4th). Rodgers is also 0-1 for his career at Lambeau Field in the playoffs. Packer Nation can’t blame the great Mike McCarthy, either, right? What other team finishes the regular season 15-1, comes off a bye rested and fully healthy, plays an opponent with a 9-7 record that it beat earlier in the year and…calls for an onside kick, in the first half, at home, with the score tied 10-10. Brilliant. McCarthy’s halftime adjustments really worked, too, as the Packers managed one TD in the second half. Packer Nation can’t blame their vaunted 3-4 defense. The Packers’ D finished dead last in yards allowed, despite beating such established signal callers as: Ponder (twice), Caleb Hanne, Kyle Orton (only once though, KO got even later in the year with KC), Sam Bradford (who still threw for 328 yards), and Carson Palmer. The Packers D gave up over 300 yards of offense in the 1st half alone, after having an extra week to rest and prepare. What a talented bunch. Packer Nation can’t blame Ted Thompson. After all, he’s credited with being the architect of this juggernaut, thanks to drafting players like Clay Matthews and BJ Raji. Consider that despite having to play under the looming threat of HGH testing, Matthews and Raji still turned in Pro Bowl seasons. Or did they? BJ finished the season with 10 tackles. TEN. As ProFootballFocus reports: “Defensive tackle B.J. Raji has the lowest run defense rating for defensive tackles/nose tackles at -15.1.” Heck, Letroy Guion, a backup with the Vikings, managed to make 14 tackles in a part time role. Matthews finished the season ranked 49th in sacks, with a total of 6.0. ‘Ol ball kicker Brian Robison had 8.0. What about all that talent TT finds outside the draft? If you’re thinking of Tramon Williams, keep this stat in mind (also from ProFootballFocus): “Cornerback Tramon Williams has allowed 1034 receiving yards, which is the most by any player in a season over the past four years.” Packer Nation can’t blame karma. Or can they? It’s not like they left Rodgers in games, deep in to the second half, throwing TD passes in a shameless pursuit of Marino’s yardage and the ’07 Patriots’ scoring record. Oh wait, Rodgers threw a 4th quarter TD pass versus the Broncos. Final score in that game: 49-23. Rodgers threw a 4th quarter TD pass against the Vikings in the Metrodome game. Final score: 45-7. Never mind. Packer Nation can’t blame themselves. They remain classy fans, as reported by the GB Press Gazette a few hours ago: GREEN BAY — Green Bay police reported 11 people were arrested Sunday at Lambeau Field and 56 others were ejected during the Green Bay Packers' loss to the New York Giants. According to police, six people were arrested for unlawful conduct at a public event, while three others were arrested for unlawful conduct and resisting arrest. One person was arrested for underage drinking, and another for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police said 56 people were ejected from the stadium for various misconduct violations. So where does this leave us? When you consider the combined winning percentage of the Packers’ opponents was .457 (both the Colts and Rams played teams with records over .500), the only conclusion is that the Packers were simply an overrated bunch that was soundly outplayed and outcoached (again) by the Giants in the playoffs. Scary thought: Maybe if the Packers had the Vikings’ defense (which ranked 21st in yards allowed) the outcome would have been different. What a thought. On the bright side, the extra time off gives Rodgers a chance to make more of those charming State Farm Insurance commercials. I can hear it now, “Discount Double Choke!”

on January 16th, 2012 at 10:20am

The bottom line folks is that "relevance" leaves one open to painful outcomes.... lets saddle up for next season. GoPack!

on January 16th, 2012 at 10:42am

Heh. Even with referee help, the Pack got whooped. Face it---the refs help you clowns win about 4-5 extra games a year.

on January 16th, 2012 at 10:51am

dave looking forward to the guy from NewYork to call your show Sunday, oh thats right its Packer Preview, not Packer Review

on January 16th, 2012 at 11:17am

Pretty sad when watching another team lose, makes your season. You've failed at life, vikes fan. Oh, and the "Discount Double Check" jokes - nobody had ever thought of those before. EVER! You're the first, vikes fan! Originality, be thy name.

on January 16th, 2012 at 12:11am

Joseph, Thanks for telling Dave and the rest of us Packer fans that defense still wins championships and that the Pack didn't have any. Wow! So insightful! Where were you in our time of need? Why didn't Thompson and McCarthy consult you?! Nevertheless, thanks for the mindblowing advice. You very well may have saved the franchise.

on January 16th, 2012 at 12:15am

boy, davey, u should hope the pack loses more often, look at all the queen comments now. they don't have anything to say on there blogs so they have to come to yours. hey unknown, whey to be a coward and can't even put your name, u wouldn't use your real one anyway i'm sure. if u had been around the last year, i have been hitting on things i predicted and don't always agree with the rest. i said i was scared of k.c and could get beat, and on dec, said nyg is team i hated to see. said we could get down by 10 and we did, called last years 21-14 win in nfc championship to the nuts, said we would be up early on pittsburg and pitt would score late to get it closer.said we would win super bowl 31-27. we won 31-26. not bad ha, it's not just the hurry up idiot.if your going to comment, read back before u spout off. chris from mpls. wow, if that does not show your queens season in full. u have more stats on the pack then u know about your own team, it's fun to follow a champion isn't it. oh, i know u don't know. glad to see davey, u got rid of the filth that was on here last nite. more queen rubes showing there iq. no one must go to there web site. one thing lost in all this, which i also brought up,( unknown guy), dealing with the death of joe philbins son, may have caused some things team they didn't even realize how it would effect them. for a lot of these guys it was there 1st funeral. u never been thru that. dilfer said when he lost his son, his team mates didn't know what to do or react, it was hard on everyone to talk and express there emotions. the team looked emotionless to me. and like i said before, u can't play this game w/o emotion and passion. everyone have a good and healthy year.

on January 16th, 2012 at 12:28pm

@Unknown. Why don't you lay off Larry. A little mean spirited aren't we? No need for it on this sight. Please take your rage elsewhere. Not interested in your negativity.

on January 17th, 2012 at 01:52pm

Good lord - your condescending attitude all year long and extremely cocky predictions come to a hilarious end. I can't believe you have a show on KFAN and MN is even nice enough to let you have a job at a MN sport station. You seem like a good guy but your takes are just delusional. That "vaunted" Dom Capers D with that "beast" Clay Matthews came to play. No more Wayne Larivee idiotic calls. Have fun patching up that defense and your extremely overrated WR corps through the draft. The good ol' Ted Thompson way. This is karma for the pure smug attitude your fans have had all season long. Good night.

I’ve felt that it was necessary to take a day or so to respond to let the Vikings fools out there have their say and demonstrate the lack of testicular fortitude to engage in a meaningful discussion regarding Sunday’s outcome, but in all likelihood are incapable of either doing so, or not having enough knowledge to understand the meaning of that phrase – most likely both. But I digress…I realize there are some individuals out there that feel Sunday’s loss was complete humiliation, but I feel that the loss 4 years ago was far worse than this one, both in the manner of how they occurred, and the lasting impact on the organization. 4 years ago was the end of an era; Sunday will prove to be just a blip in the long term course of this team. Regardless of how the rest of the playoffs turn out, the Packers will once again be the odds on favorite in 2012. Sure, it’s a hard pill to swallow going 15-1, then bowing out in the first playoff game, but champions don’t have 4 turnovers, miss wide open receivers, and bobble passes that land between the numbers. The best thing that came out of this was the accountability each man took – no one blamed any one else other than themselves. The defense, other than having a typical (for 2011) 1st quarter, and abysmal 2nd and 4th quarters, had a stellar 3rd quarter – they had two 3-and-outs and gave the offense every opportunity to get back in it, but the offense literally fumbled away their chances. But the good news out of all of this is that this team is built for the long haul. Indeed, Ted Thompson will have a busy off season – will Grant, Finley, Flynn, Driver and Clifton be returning? Some may, some may not. No one knows for sure; after all, these are business decisions, and all of the aforementioned parties fully understand that. I’m not even sure Thompson knows at this point. But I do know this – Thompson is thinking long term here, and his track record has proven that if you address the issues of the future, the present will address itself. The present does not take care of the future, and you don’t have to go any further than the Wilf family for proof of that. I think in a heartbeat, any one of us would be willing to embrace the off season issues the Packers have compared to those of the Vikings. Sunday was not a complete derailment, just a minor bump in the road. The Packers are, and will remain relevant for years to come. Maybe about the time Rodgers retires will be when the Vikings are, but then again…

on January 17th, 2012 at 02:50pm

gerbyfan--"no more Wayne Larivee idiotic calls". Seriously. I'd rather listen to a thousand nails on a chalkboard forever than one minute of Paul Allen calling a queens game. And as far as Spielman righting the queens pathetic ship. Good luck with that one. Ask any Dolphins fan how that worked out for them. You might want to stop drinking the purple face paint.

on January 17th, 2012 at 03:23pm

You said it all Dave. Pretty sad way to end the season. I told my wife early on "that it drives me nuts that in 3rd n long we up a first down time and again. Enjoy your work on KFAN and kudos to them for letting us in western Wisconsin have some Packer talk.

on January 17th, 2012 at 03:45pm

i agree 100 % with u Bill, voice of reason, and Deb, thanks, but i am a big boy, i did have few drinks that day, when i didn't use the right whey to spell way, there unknown happy, i'm sure your perfect, i right in these blogs to have fun and make predictions on our favorite team, not go on other teams sites and cut them down. like a lot have said in this blog, i know more viking fans that would rather see us lose then the queens win. envious and jealousy, will never stop. have a great year us true packer fans.

on January 17th, 2012 at 09:15pm

Oh, and another thing the Vikings will smoke the Pack because with our first round pick as high as it is we will have the best receiver in the league, trust me now that Rick is the REAL boss we'll get things doen. This is what we've needed a point man. We'll be back just like we were in 2009 because we still have our core of AP, Jerett Alan, Ponder, Percie, and Greenway. I will be glad when we shut down the Preview hour and get more Skol talk. Viking fans are classier, and don't even try to mention that Viking boat thing, those players aren't here anymore. Skol, Skol, Skol, we will domintate the Nort.

on January 17th, 2012 at 09:33am

Unknow, You hit it on hte head. Welcome to the off season where you can join us on the couch. You won't be in the SB becasue you wimper about the calls too much. The nice thing is you can watch almost your whole team in the PRO Bowl along with us. Enjoy the off season and look forward to us getting a much better draft pick than you. Whimpers!

on January 17th, 2012 at 09:43am

They say time in a few days or weeks let all these name callers and frustrated Viking fans give us their smack....that's OK...But when the smoky smack clears lets get back to the real Packer fan regulars on this site and discuss with Davy the upcoming draft and free agent things we should consider for next year. old time regulars ...hang in there. GO PACK GO !!

on January 17th, 2012 at 10:44am

Larry - Let me know when the press conference is where the Pack introduce you as one of their coaches. I will be sure to watch it on ESPN. If your superior football knowledge is anything like your use of the english language, I am not impressed. Until then go cry in another beer. Don't worry your wife can wipe your tears for you and tell you that you're going to be a NFL Head Coach someday. That will make it all better. LOL! You pathetic wimp. Welcome to the off season. Oh yeah and "whey" is spelled way, but I'm the idiot. That's the kind of comedy a person will only find from a cheesehead. Funny stuff.

on January 17th, 2012 at 12:28am

Odds on McCarthy resting healthy starters last game if we get there again, ok, when? How about a closed to the public, Full pad, full speed, flag football game, scheming likely opponent on Sunday, bye week, instead of leaving town?

on January 18th, 2012 at 01:59pm

OK, I'm getting a bad feeling from people about how the Packers lost this one. If I may take the liberty of offering some perspective, they didn't lose because they had the bye week and "took time off", they weren't "rusty", it wasn't the lingering effects of not having team workouts during the lockout, it wasn't because of a discount double check, or any of that nonsense. How about this...1) The Packers didn't execute on both offense and defense, and 2) The Giants DID. I think this is what it boils down to - they were beat by a better team, plain and simple. Will we be convinced of that if the Giants win next week and advance? Maybe for some of us, maybe not for others. Let's face facts, folks - any given team cannot win the Super Bowl every year. It's just not going to happen. But a given team certainly can be competitive every year, and occasionally win the big one provided they get hot at the right time. Case in point - for the last 10+ years, New England has been in the playoff mix every year, and for the occasional year they don't make it, it's not by much. Patriot fans have had a lot to smile about during that time, and that includes a handful of Lombardi trophies. Now, let's look at the other side - Indianapolis won it all a few years ago, and now look what kind of train wreck they are. Why? Because they didn't address their future issues. Apparently someone in their front office figured Peyton Manning would be their guiding light for 30 years, and didn't plan accordingly. NOW look at the Colts - the GM is gone; the head coach is gone; the coaching staff is in shambles. Oh, and what do they do with Manning? What an absolute mess! Now, how do you fix this mess? It's going to take some time before the Colts are relevant again. So, ask yourself this question...what would you rather have, a team that developes their draft picks and is competitive every year (IE: Packers, Patriots, Steelers, Giants, Saints), or a team that puts a heavy mortgage on the future with expensive free agents and unproductive veterans for that "one shot" at the trophy, then completely collapse into a rebuilding project, with an owner who has an itchy trigger finger (IE: Colts, Rams, Dolphins, Redskins, Vikings)? And then there's the perpetual train wrecks year in and year out (IE: Browns, Bucs). The jury is still out on the Eagles, only because they didn't get rid of Andy Reid, which was probably the only smart thing they did this year. And don't get me started on the Jets. Franchise stability is so important - every one of the top tier teams have have coaches and front office staff in place for years, and each of the bottom dwellers change coaches every few years - some more often than that. I'll now make my final point - Packer fans, yes, it didn't go the way we would have liked, but you have plenty to feel good about - an innovative coach, a genius GM, and a great QB. You also now have the good fortune of knowing what problems need attention, so we can probably predict at least 2 of the top 3 draft picks will be on defense, right? Sure, we'd all like to be partying in Indy 2 weeks from now, but all things considered, the Pack is in great shape.

I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

it's all opinion, but this alctire was all about reminding people about who and what he was, and in affect, stating who he is.True, he fell apart in the final 5 games, but many people are quick to forget that 8-3 start and 20 TD before his arm went to hell.If it really was the arm (The rest of the team was bad, too), then the Vikings are getting a good player.

In actuality, we're both right. My sniearco played out a little earlier than usual. As the Packers couldn't make a first down and gave the ball back to Carolina with 7 minutes left up by 7 and a chance for them to tie the game. It took a defensive stop with 3 minutes left on the 6 yard line to prevent Carolina from tying the game. As you point out, a bit later, the Packers threw on first down and Nelson broke it for a TD. You are right he deserves some credit for that, but my Groundhog day sniearco did, in fact, play out, albeit a little earlier

- It's soooo hard sometimes not to be sueckd into the things of this world and remember that this world is not our home. Reminded me of this verse Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matt 6:19-21And I love the picture you used to represent the bigger picture , our relationships with others and not things.

You also have to understand and take into acnuoct that if he is that amazing of a quarterback STILL, and don't freak out I don't deny that he is one of the all time greats, then how did he single handedly destroy the Jets playoff hopes last year. I was upset with Romo's interceptions, so if Mr. Record Holder does bad, he deserves negative results. I used to love Brett Favre and the days of running up into Warren Sapp's face, but those days are far gone. So far gone that he can hardly run and it seems that his skills are starting to slide. If the Vikings knew what was good for them they would stop putting the team in a bad position and just stick with Jackson. He at least has hope for the future. I'm not trying to bash Brett Favre here, I am just stating facts. Brett Favre lives off of media attention and what he has ESPN doing every 8 months is tarnishing his legacy. Not his legacy as a whole, because he WAS great, but a little part of that inseperable hold that he used to have on America is gone I just wish he would retire and leave it as it was. But i guess he should have done that years ago.
